Parent/ Parent Retirement Category

If your adult child or grandchild is an New Zealand citizen or resident, you may be eligible to apply for residence under the Parent Category or the Parent Retirement Category.

Parent Category

​

Applicants must:
 

  • Have no dependent children
     

  • Speak English: meet a minimum standard of English, or pre-purchase English for Speakers of Other Languages tuition to the specified level
     

  • Have an adult child living in New Zealand who meets sponsorship requirements (with a minimum annual income of TWICE the New Zealand median income in two of the past three years, in order to sponsor ONE parent)
     

  • Be in good health and of good character

Parent Retirement Category

​

Applicants must:
 

  • Have no dependent children
     

  • own funds or assets of at least NZ$1 million value and undertake to invest them in an acceptable investment in New Zealand for at least 4 years, and
     

  • in addition to investment funds/assets, own settlement funds of at least NZ$0.5 million, and
     

  • have an annual income of at least NZ$60,000, and
     

  • meet health and character requirements
